Accutane is prescribed in the treatment of severe acne. It helps reduce sebum production and in many cases, leads to remission.
The recommended dosage for adults is based on body weight and drug response. The treatment usually lasts for 12-16 weeks. The capsules should be taken with food, in a single dose or in two divided doses. Accutane should not be administered in pregnant women. It is recommended for the woman to wait for at least a month after finishing treatment with Accutane before falling pregnant.

Most common side effects of the Accutane are related to skin symptoms: pain and swelling of lips, skin eruption, dry nose and skin, red eyes, hair loss, irritation of the eyes. Desquamation of the skin on the palms and soles, skin infections, headaches, tiredness in about 5% of the patients.
