Banana: A Super Fruit in Review

I am pretty sure you know what a banana is. Chances are you have tried eating it too. I also believe that you are informed that they are very nutritious. But do you really know the detailed benefits of eating bananas? What if I tell you a banana a day, keeps the doctor away better than apples? Intriguing isn’t it?

 

Most of the time, bananas are often taken for granted as we direct our attention to other fruits that are making waves in medical studies like antioxidant power of grapes, apple’s ability to fight the Big C (cancer) and other raves on different fruits. But let us take a closer look on a fruit that is relatively cheap and very easy to get, and see the power it packs within.

 

There are 4 essential elements that are contained in each banana finger. All these substances play a vital role in our system and are very much needed by our body to fight off diseases and make healthy advances. Let us know each one and learn about the benefits it can give to our bodies.

 

High Dose of Potassium

Potassium ions play a great role for proper muscle functions. It aids in muscle contraction hence a good dose of it is needed by the body especially the organs that are made up of involuntary muscles like the heart and intestines. Hence bananas are really good for the heart as well as the nerves of the body.

 

Potassium also helps in preserving calcium in the body. It helps prevent calcium excretion and is responsible for keeping the calcium level optimized. Your kidneys and bones are the main organs aided by this function. Osteoporosis could also be prevented. And oh, studies also reveal that potassium also aids in making a person smart!

 

Tryptophan

Are you feeling easily irritated and under a lot of stress lately? Eat bananas and naturally shift into a more pleasant mood. This is the calming effect of bananas brought about by its rich tryptophan content. It is one of the 20 amino acids that are the building blocks of proteins in the body and is responsible for the production of serotonin.

 

Serotonin acts as a mild sedative and has a significant calming effect on the brain. Making your mood stable and generates the feeling of happiness and relaxation. Remember that the body cannot produce tryptophan by itself, so you need to get them from the food you eat. It is then safe to say that bananas are one of the easiest to look for and cheapest source of happiness.

 

 

Vitamin B6 Content

Bananas contain exemplary amount of vitamin B6 which helps in converting tryptophan to serotonin. It also aids in the production of antibodies to combat diseases and other viruses. On top of that Vitamin B6 also helps in the production of hemoglobin in the blood keeping anemia and other blood related abnormalities at bay.

 

Dietary Fibers

Do you know that a single banana contains about 16% of the daily dietary fiber you need? Imagine if you eat two a day that is already more than a quarter of your total daily requirement. These fibers also have a laxative effect ensuring and promoting good bowel movements. Apart from this, dietary fibers are also effective in preventing diabetes as well as coronary diseases

 

All these nutritional contents of banana make it worthy to be classified as a super fruit. Make it a habit to eat banana everyday to enjoy all the health benefits it can offer. What is there not to like? It probably is one of the most complete fruit in terms of nutritional value.
