Earth. Air. Water. Three of the elements that represent us. Define us. Surround us. We surely belong to the fisrt one as species although we did manage to explore the other two pretty well. One without the other leads to the inevitable ending. Together, they mean life.
We all know that water is essential to any forms of existence but not often we become aware that it is one of the most friendly hosts humans can run into in a lifetime. It can do us more good than any other settings we can think of when it comes to adjusting our health, bodies and minds.
Physically we do not belong to any bodies of water, of course , but most of us turn swimming into a fine technique which helps us sustain a wonderful interaction with this unique environment, either we perceive it as swimming pool, river, sea, lake, etc.
Is there a certain time in our life when we should consider swimming ? Learning it? Practicing it? Interrupting it? All the possible answers are very encouraging. It is never too early to begin it, never too late to experience it and always most recommended to everyone.
It is known that a less traumatic experience for both the mother and the baby is the amazing water birth method so here’s a first argument which tells us about the very early abilities to swim a human has.
If you were to put a baby under six months of age in water, they would move their arms and legs while holding their breath. This is why some families believe in swim training for very little babies. “The water is your friend. You don't have to fight with it, just share the same spirit and it will help you move. “ While remembering this quote, another question followed by a smile, raises: Since three quarters of the plant are water, shouldn’t we seriously consider swimming?
Our conscious mind leads to learning new skills and we hurry to apply them in order to feel more complete and prepared to react in different situations, contexts. Swimming is definitely a skill that can become very handy once we are suddenly forced to handle more than five feet of water. But then, shouldn’t it be more than just a skill some of us consider and some don’t?
Swimming is a fine mixture of harmony and balance that can easily become a constant activity in one’s life, sometimes being a hobby, sometimes being a passion which transforms into a performance and sometimes being a late discovery one can grow old with.
Water is fun for all ages but it can also be dangerous. Adults know this, children can hardly define danger. Therefore, swimming lessons are important. All children should learn at least the basics of swimming before they are 4 or 5 years of age, or even younger if you own a lake (or river) side cottage, or a boat. One reason to teach kids the basics of swimming at a young age is because of their ability to float when they are young, making the process of swimming much easier to learn. As a person gets older, muscles start to grow, as do their fears. Some people avoid water because it scares them. For those who have spent a lifetime either too afraid to swim or just uncomfortable in the water, this is a secret eager to be shared: water wants to hold you up—that is its nature. It should help you in overcoming your fear of swimming to know that no matter what your weight or height are, you will find that the water has no problem lifting you and with patience and practice, swimming can be a lifelong form of pleasurable and invigorating habit.
