There are times in our lives that all the things we do seem to take its toll on our bodies. Over time at work, errands here and there, sleep deprivation, improper diet and lack of exercise can all add up and jeopardize our health. All these situations can make our immunity against bacteria and viruses very low making us very susceptible to colds and other minor illnesses.
Most people doesn’t really give too much attention to colds, workaholic people will just brush it off and continue with their daily activities thinking that the symptoms will just melt away in time. The sad reality is though, that common colds, although seemingly harmless, could be a sign of a more serious underlying health condition. Common colds when left untreated could also escalate to be a more serious condition.
Of course the best way to deal with colds is to visit your doctor and ask for possible cure for the sickness, but in times that a doctor’s visit is not possible, knowing some natural ways to fight colds could come in handy and prove to be very effective.
The most common symptoms of common colds are:
If you experience one or more of these symptoms, act right away and follow these tips to curve the effects of common colds before its too late. Taking over the counter medicines will usually do the trick, but these natural remedies could be very beneficial to your condition as well.
Blow your nose as often as possible
As soon as mucus is starting to accumulate on your nostrils blow it out instead of sniffing it back in, but be sure to hold shut the other nostril as you blow gently on the other. Avoid blowing hard as it can be really painful to the ear. Do not forget to wash your hands with soap and water after you do.
Rest as Much as You Can
There is no point putting your health at greater risk by working sick. Rest comfortable, allow yourself to take a day off from your usual hectic routine to just lay down in bed watch your favorite show and relax. Pretty soon you will feel energized and up and running again.
Gargle with Salt and Water
At the first sign of sore throat, gargle lukewarm water with salt dissolved in it. The best time to gargle is right before you sleep, after you brushed your teeth and when you won’t eat anything else. Gargle first thing in the morning as well. You will be surprised on how effective this method is. Try it.
Drink Hot Liquids instead of Cold Drinks
Hot and steamy coffee or chocolate drink will work wonders when you have colds. The steam alone can relieve stuffed and congested nasal cavity. The warmth it can bring to your stomach and body in general, is relaxing to say the least. Drinking lots of water will also help regain your strength back as it can flush away any toxins that have accumulated in your body thus making you ill.
Head Massage
Massage your head while sitting or lying down, apply mild pressure on the bridge of your nose and on the edges of your brow. If done properly it could give instant relief for your stuffed nose making it easier to breath. Another trick is to push inwards your nose tip and hold it for a few seconds while breathing through your nose normally.
These home remedies could be all you need to drive away common cold. If symptoms persist for longer periods of time though, visit your doctor right away so that you can be tested and properly diagnosed as well as given proper medication for whatever the underlying cause of your sickness may be.
And always wash your hand or use sanitizers or alcohol around the house to prevent the spread of the disease to others. Stay safe and be healthy!
